Hughson High Baseball is coming off a rough loss to the Oakdale Mustangs. They lost that game 9-1. Hunter Cook was the losing pitcher. His game ERA was 3.00 with three earned runs. He had  two strikeouts over 4.2 Innings pitched.

It’s forty five minutes till game time and the Huskies are already on the field getting their warm ups in. Hunter Cook s already in the Bullpen with his catcher Robert McDaniel. The coaches are spraying down the field for the first League game of the year. Where the Huskies face off with the Hilmar Yellowjackets. No one expected the outcome. 

Hilmar got things going quickly. The count was 2-2 with runners on first and second base. When Matthew Avila singled on a ground ball to right fielder Tony Quinterios. Max Hittesdorf scores bringing the score to 1-0 in favor of Hilmar. The score remained the same until Gavin Stone doubled on a fly ball to Hilmar’s right fielder Keaton Singleton came home to score tying the game at 1-1. 

Hilmar’s defense kept the Huskies to one run. Thanks to their pitcher J. King. J. King fanned nine batters in six innings pitched. Matthew Avila also played his part in defense with putouts in eight total chances. His fielding percentage was 1.000. 

Soon the Huskies found themselves at a 5-1 disadvantage but they wouldn’t stop fighting. In the fourth inning Gavin Stone grounded out to J.King but Kaden Redding scored to bring the score to 5-2. But Hilmar would strike back again when J. King doubled on a fly ball to center fielder Keaton Singleton, scoring Matthew Avila. The score was now 6-2 Hilmar. 

The score remained until the top of the sixth inning. But that changed when Max Hittesdorf hit a sharp ground ball to center fielder Keaton Singleton, scoring Kazuki Mihono. The score was now 7-2 in favor of Hilmar. The Huskies were getting desperate. It was the bottom of the sixth inning with the game hero for the Huskies up to bat. The count was 1-1 when Gavin Stone doubled on a fly ball to center fielder Max Hittesdorf, scoring JC Luprico and Kaden Redding. The score was now 7-4 in favor of Hilmar. 

The Huskies were down to their last at bat of the night. But here comes Hilmar’s pride and joy, their closer Max Hittesdorf. Ethan Jones led off the seventh inning. The count was 3-1 when Jones was hit by the pitch earning him a free base. Next up was Robert McDaniel. He walked on a 3-1 count advancing Jones to second base. With runners on first and second the Huskies hope was on Jacob Yarbrough. The count was 2-1 when Yarbrough made solid contact. Yarbrough doubled on a fly ball to center fielder B. Westmoreland. Jones scored and McDaniel advanced to second base. 

The score was now 7-5 Hilmar. Now the hopes of Hughson lay on Kaden Redding’s shoulders. Kaden Pulls through hitting a rbi single to center field which scores McDaniel and Yarbrough. The score was now 7-7. The next two Husky batters both caused outs for the Huskies. Now the hopes are laid on Gavin Stone. Gavin Stone pulls through hitting a single to the center fielder. Kaden Redding scores on the throw home.
