On Tuesday September 11, 2001, terrorists organized four suicide attacks against the United States. A total of 2,996 people had died during these attacks. During the Hughson High football game, on Friday September 9, 2022 cheerleaders did a halftime show dedicated to the people who were injured and killed during the 9/11 tragedy.

To commemorate the fallen and the injured of the horrific 9/11 attacks, Hughson High cheerleaders did a halftime show during the football game on Friday September 9th, 2022. It is important to honor and remember these victims, may the dead rest in peace and the injured find solace in life.

In the beginning of the game everyone stood up, faced the flag and had a moment of silence for the fallen. The Hughson High cheerleaders were lined up with first responders and military women and men. In a single file line they walked to the middle of the field, in the order of a cheerleader, worker, cheerleader and so on. The cheerleaders walked in a different line to do their stunts while the first responders and military people stayed put. One of the fliers in the middle held up the American flag while everyone cheered. The J.V cheer team held up a huge American Flag behind them. They went back in a line and went forward duo by duo to call out their names and positions. For the grand finale a helicopter with an American flag flew across the sky above the football field. Mr. Brown, a football coach for Hughson High said, “I love that our school did that. They recognized any type of police officers, firemen, anyone in service like that, they deserve recognition more than just what we were able to give them and show them at our halftime show. Anything we can do to recognize them, appreciate them is a great positive thing.” One of the cheerleaders on the varsity team, Jaeda Rodriguez added, “I think that the 9/11 halftime show was very respectful and was definitely a good way to honor their memory.”
