Should kids have homework? An article from Education Inequality titled Homework and its Negative Impact On Students says “In fact, too much homework can do more harm than good. Researchers have cited drawbacks, including boredom and burnout toward academic material, less time for family and extracurricular activities, lack of sleep and increased stress.” Some believe that we should have homework but here are some reasons why we should or shouldn’t have homework from students and staff.

Bryce McDaniel, a freshman at Hughson High stated, “We shouldn’t have homework because I focus a lot on my sports. I get home late and would rather sleep than do homework late at night.”

Logan Meyer, a senior at Hughson High added, “We don’t need it because we learn everything in class. Why do we need to do it at home?”

Ms. Glavich, an English teacher at Hughson High, said, “I’m not a big believer in homework, I kinda value what we do in the class. Because I think homework may add a little extra stress to it. You may not work as well as you do in the classroom rather when you have someone there helping you.”

Mrs. Brazil, the Psychology teacher at Hughson High and volleyball coach asserted, “I am a teacher that doesn’t really give a lot of homework. Usually the only time I give homework is when a student doesn’t finish their work in class or if there is a test they need to study for. I think if class time is used efficiently you don’t need a lot of homework.”

Mrs. Newsome, a Spanish teacher at Hughson High stated, “I think homework helps you get better at the subject, and so in Spanish you need a little extra help.”

Mr.Brown, the Art teacher at Hughson High and Varsity football coach remarked, “ For my class I don’t really give it because mine’s a studio class. I think for the most part you get the most out of it. It gets really tricky when you have to take artwork home out of the studio to work on. So for the most part I would say no, I don’t believe as much. There is a little gray area there when I think there are times when independent work at home isn’t a bad thing. I think it can benefit the students. I think a lot of the time if you use class time the right way students can get a lot out of the class period.”
