NFL Week 2 Wrap-Up

Martin Ochoa, Staff Writer

Week 2 of the NFL had the craziest comebacks I’ve ever seen in one week. You got the Cardinals coming back from 20 points, The Dolphins coming back by scoring 4 touchdowns in the 4th quarter, And last but not least the Jets coming back from a 14 point deficit.

Let’s get into last week’s prime time predictions. I went 3 for 4, The game I got wrong was Chargers at Chiefs and Chiefs won 27-24.

The new passing leader of the NFL is Tua Tagovailoa with 739 yards and 7 touchdowns. He threw 6 of those touchdowns last game which was close to tying the all time record of 7.

Saquon Barkley keeps his number one spot with 236 yards rushing  and 1 touchdown. Last game he had 21 carries for 72 yards.

Once again Cooper Kupp keeps his number one spot with 236 receiving yards and 4 touchdowns. He also leads the league with receptions with 24.

As for the defensive stats, a new tackle king in Johnathon Owens with 25 combined tackles. He had 10 of them last game.

For the first time of the season we have a definitive interception leader in Marcus Williams. He had 2 interceptions against the passing leader Tua Tagovailoa last week.

Last not but not least the sacks leader, Micah Parsons of the Cowboys dethroned Khalil Mack and Alex Highsmith with 4 sacks. This week Parsons had 2 sacks along with 4 tackles.

There were big injuries this week, Trey Lance the starting quarterback of the 49ers went down with an ankle injury and is expected to miss the season. Another starting quarterback of the Chargers, Justin Herbert. A CT scan revealed Herbert has a fracture to his rib cartilage. The Chargers aren’t sure if he’s going to start.

Now it’s time for the last segment of this article, prime time predictions. First we’re going to start with Steelers @ Browns.

Starting off with the Browns, I think the first thing they need to do in order to win is to shut down the pass game. They let a 37 year old Joe Flacco go for 307 yards and 4 touchdowns.

However, The Steelers didn’t have a good pass game last week against the Patriots, They threw 1 interception and got sacked once.

Now if the Steelers want to win they need to stop the Browns offense. Nick Chubb had 3 touchdown runs and Amari Cooper had a 100 yard game. Another huge factor of the game will be T.J watt.

T.J watt was injured on week 1 and is still on the injury reserve list. He’s a huge part of the Steelers defense and with him gone that’s going to affect the game.

I think with the injury of T.J watt and them not playing good defense last week I think the Browns are going to beat the Steelers. Next game is 49ers @ Broncos.

Last game the Broncos Quarterback didn’t play well with 14/31 passes with 1 touchdown and 1 interception. However they did win their last game against the Texans. Due to their running game and great defense.

I think if the Broncos want to win this next game they need to keep up with the good defense and try to get the passing game going.

For the 49ers, Like I said earlier their starting quarterback is out for the season which means that Jimmy Garoppolo is going to be starting. However some would say he’s a very overqualified back, He led the 49ers to the NFC championship game last year but they did end up losing. I think if they want to win this game they’re going to need to stop the Broncos from running and air it out to Deebo Samuel who was a big part of their offense last year. I think the 49ers are going to stop the passing attack on defense pretty well so I think they’re going to win.

Lastly on Monday night football we have the Cowboys @ Giants. They’re both coming off of very close wins.

For the Cowboys they are also missing their starting quarterback and the backup played pretty well with 19/31 passes with 231 yards and 1 touchdown. Everyone on the Cowboys offense played pretty well; they only gave up 1 sack. And on defense they had 5 sacks.

For the Giants they played good offense and mediocre defense. Their main problem last week would be against the pass rush, 3 sacks against a Panther defense which isn’t good like the Cowboys. And on defense they had 2 sacks against the Panthers.

I think if they utilize Micah Parsons to stop the run and force Daniel Jones to throw the ball that would win them the Cowboys the game which is my pick for this game.
