It’s that time of year again, Homecoming! Hughson has been celebrating homecoming for a while now. Homecoming is a great way to bring the community together to recognize all the things that make up our town. The way Hughson High celebrates homecoming can be a new thing for freshmen but also a last for seniors.

Freshman year is the year to start getting involved. Homecoming is a great way for that because float building can bring your whole class together if you show up. Nick Chavez, a freshman at HHS said, “The homecoming activity I was most looking forward to was the floats. If I could add my own dress up day it would’ve been pajama day!” Even though it’s only their 1st homecoming, Nick said that going to the big game is the best part of homecoming.

Another freshman, Channing Coonce also expressed her thoughts on her first high school homecoming. Channing said, “The homecoming activity I was most excited for was the football game and for my dress up day I would make everyone dress up as Barney the dinosaur.” To Channing, homecoming to her means having fun with friends!

For seniors, homecoming can be a different point of view for them because it’s their last high school homecoming. Henry Bravo, a senior at Hughson High says, “I am most excited for the homecoming game against Livingston.” Henry also added that for him, homecoming means involving the community. Henry also discussed his favorite homecoming activity, which consists of participating in all the dress up days, especially Adam Sandler day because he gets to dress like his dad!

Another senior, Emily Flora, also described her thoughts about her last homecoming in high school as a senior. Emily says, “I’m just overall going to miss how close everyone gets during homecoming week and how no matter what, everyone just works together and has fun and makes memories.” Another great thing about homecoming is meeting new people and making new friends. Emily also added, “I’ve met so many people through homecoming and I’m going to miss that bond our class has formed.” When it comes to homecoming in a small town like Hughson, the community tends to come together to celebrate what makes Hughson such a great city! For Emily, homecoming means a community coming together and just having fun and making the best memories! Emily’s favorite homecoming activity is said to be float building because everyday people from each class come together to put their ideas and their creativity to create something so cool!

When it comes to homecoming, HHS students have lots to say. From float building, to dress up days, and of course the big game and parade, the community tends to come together to celebrate our little town including the students. While being a senior, homecoming can have a different meaning because it’s your last year. Freshman year on the other hand is a new and exciting week and also a great opportunity to start getting involved with your class and making new memories!
