The corpse bride is a 2005 film released on September 16th. Victor is played by Johnny Depp who also starred in other Tim Burton films like Edward Scissor Hands and one shocking thing that no one really knew about is he played the mad hatter in Alice in wonderland and he also portrayed Willy Wonka in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (2005). Sadly Tim Burton did not wish to collaborate with Johnny anymore in his films after Dark Shadows came out a decade ago. Tim hired Johnny because he believed that Johnny would be amazing at portraying dark characters with tender hearts which he did a really good job in. Helena Bohma Carter (played Victoria) has also played in Tim Burton’s films alongside Johnny like Alice in Wonderland and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory were she played the red queen and Mrs. Bucket, Charlie’s mother.

Corpse Bride is a film about Emily, a young girl who was robbed and left to die in the woods by her then soon-to-be husband who just wanted her family’s fortune and although dead, still got engaged to Victor Van Dort. Victor and Victoria very much have feelings for one another and are put in an arranged marriage by their parents. Victor was very nervous and went into the woods to practice his lines for the upcoming ceremony where he said the words, “With this hand I will lift your sorrows. Your cup will never empty, for I will be your wine. With this candle, I will light your way in darkness. With this ring I ask you to be mine” and proceeded to slip the ring into a “root” that looks very much like a hand. That “root” belonged to the hand of a young zombie who has waited for years for her fiance to come back and get her.

Victor is now engaged to Emily but not on purpose. Immediately after they engaged Emily took him down to the land of the dead. While he was there, everyone including Victoria thought he either ran away from the wedding or died trying to. Emily wanted to bring Victor down to the land of the dead and introduce him to her friends there. Of course a lot of them got upset and were wary of him. During his time in the land of the dead Victoria gets married to Lord Burkis Bittern. Lord Burkis then so happens to be Emily’s ex fiance, her murderer. Victor frees Emily and Burkis drinks a potion that instantly kills him leaving Victoria single.

In the end Victoria and Victor were both single and were free to marry each other in the end, though many fans wished Victor should be together with Emily and not with Victoria. This movie is a really good one just like the other ones I’ve reviewed. I love the animation style that they used. I think that it suits the “vibe” of the film. My younger siblings and I like to watch this movie a lot and we never got tired of it. This is a perfect movie to watch if you have movie nights with your siblings, friends, or you can enjoy it by yourself!
