HHS Band Performs at Home Volleyball Game

For the first time in a long time, our HHS Band finally performed at our home Volleyball game on Tuesday, October 25th! With the help of our lovely band director, a few of our HHS Band members had gone to the Volleyball game and played music not only for our talented girls, but for the crowd and all who attended. Many people had reported that they really enjoyed the performance and claimed the band’s musical input had really added excitement to the experience.

Band Director Mrs. Maki had stated, “I received a lot of positive feedback from parents, players and band students – I think it would be fun to continue to support our volleyball team this way.” With the people of the crowd giving the enthusiasm, the band was able to have fun and enjoy themselves, feeling welcomed into the general area of the Volleyball stands.

The band actually considered it to be much different than playing their music at a football game. Maki recalled, “The experience definitely contrasts with football games: first, playing in the gym is a whole different experience than playing outside. The acoustics of the gym floor and walls allow a small group of musicians to sound really loud (I think we had about 11-12 students performing, versus a 60 person band needed to perform outside.) Setting up was easy and knowing when and how long to play was very easy to understand (during time outs & in between sets). I also loved our drumline punctuation of every ‘kill’!”

With the HHS Volleyball girls winning the game, the crowd had claimed that the band made the experience more exciting and added onto the effect of the volleyball plays. “I loved learning more about the rules and format of the game and seeing our team shine! Our team was giving seriously positive vibes and it was fun to see them so successfully compete (and win!)”

Overall, the game was a very exciting experience for the crowd, the players, and the Band who participated. The enthusiasm put in on every equal part makes a sport that much funner for everyone who chooses to participate. Our ladies who played at the game are very talented and nailed the performance!
