For the first time in 22 years the Hughson Huskies make it to the section finals and go out with a win. Here is how the game went against Summerville.

During the 12 yard pass in the first quarter we had a rocky start. If you were there watching the game you would be up on your feet as a nervous wreck. Offense was not on their game; they let players on the other team get through to our quarterback which put pressure on him. Not only was our offensive line not in the game nor was our quarterback. There were a lot of questionable passes,but without our defense showing up to play we wouldn’t have won this game or even made it this far.

With the 14 yard pass the ball was snapped and no one was open so Robert Mcdaniel took that opportunity to make a run for the touchdown, sadly the other player caught up and got that tackle. Our offense was doing better keeping them on that line helping our quarterback.

With the 2 yard touchdown Robert had the ball and did a hand off to Alex Villarreal, Offense pushing back the other players giving him a wide open path to run to get a touchdown.

Here goes the 18 yard pass the ball gets snapped to Robert McDaniel who looked to see who was open and he saw Ben Lighthall who was open and threw and Ben Lighthall got that catch. The offense were on their toes here, they gave Robert McDaniell time to see who was open to get that catch. 

Here is what Coach Brown had to say about their performance on Saturday’s game-

He started by stating, “I’m extremely happy for the players, I mean it is really something that hasn’t really sunk in for the coaches or the players as coaches we know how big of a deal this is and it is gonna be to all the players here that were involved not just now for many years to come that they have that connection that they can always have and talk about the moments and to be one of the very few Hughson team to have won a sections championship. It’s a special place to be and to do it in such dramatic fashion and is only gonna add to the story but I think for a lot of the players it hasn’t sunk in what has happened.”

He continued with a reflection, “Playing back in my day you were done after sections. We were the 1997 team undefeated and you were voted state champion so you didn’t keep playing so that 1997 team was so special because it was an easy vote.”

He concluded by stating, “I couldn’t have been more happy for the coaching staff, we wanted this more than anything for are players cause we know how hard they have worked and they deserve anything that comes their way. They played great on Saturday and as tough as I have seen any Hughson team ever they deserve as much recognition as possible. I feel like at this point everyone is a champion so they all deserve to be there and everyone has worked really hard to be where they are at and they deserve all that. Ripon christian has been around for a while and they are a well respected program in all sports. They will be well coached, I like our match up and how it is a local team. I think that will add to the drama and the crowd size that will make for a really fun atmosphere and you know we like our game plan for the week and hopefully it kinda goes our way again.”
