It’s that time of the year! The chilling air frost’s our car windows, we create fog as we exhale into the icy air, layer up on clothing, and of course some shopping! But what else makes up this time of the year? Well…it’s Christmas and it’s just  around the corner! What does that mean though? Photos with Santa! As you may or not know, I mentioned photos outdoors with Santa in my last story.

Unfortunately, it was raining on Hughson’s Christmas Festival, December third. So sadly outdoor photos were out of the question. Luckily, there was an event held inside at the Hughson Community Center, 2307 4th street. As a matter of fact, it was a charity event! Which I would love to mention, free to everyone!

To start off, the Grinch collected new unwrapped toys for the Local Resource Center! In return for this kindness, they gave out free photos with Santa and Mrs. Claus, featuring the Grinch as well. Families came in lined up eager to take free pictures with them! They also offered free crafts and cookie decorating which seemed to be popular with all age groups, especially the children.

In addition, the event itself wasn’t the only good part, the service was amazing! Student’s from our very own Hughson High helped! As soon as you walk in, you are greeted by some of “Santa’s helpers” and kindly welcomed in. Everyone was friendly and kind. They made sure everyone had a great experience.

This event was an amazing experience and alternative from being outside in the rain. The atmosphere was filled with cheer and laughs shared with families. Many kids smiled ear to ear along with adults too! So yes, sadly some weren’t able to watch the parade due to the weather but many got the opportunity to come and make lovely memories there!

Let’s hear from one of our helpers or as we can call, elves! How did they enjoy their time and experience here? What did they enjoy? Would they do it again?

Emily Alarcon, a student at Hughson High said, “It was so much fun and I think everyone helping and attending really enjoyed it.” “Dressing up and helping with all the kids and families was so much fun.” Alarcon added, “I love that it was a charity event and we got to accept donations of Christmas toys for kids!”

“We got amazing feedback on the event so I think it went very well and everyone was pleased with the experience and the turn out of the pictures and donations,” “I loved helping out at this event because we gave out free family pictures,” “I would love to do it again next year,” Alarcon noted.
