When can one depict that the line between a classic and a modern form of art has been blurred?  Classic rock is modern, but classic, and hosts the essence of familiarity for multiple generations. The revival of classic rock has been occurring over the past few decades with people bringing back largely famous songs from the 70’s through the 90’s. The youth or Gen Z per se have been raving about artists such as Billy Joel, David Bowie, and Kurt Cobain.

Billy Joel who was very popular during the 70’s and 80’s is making a comeback. Being referenced by Olivia Rodrigo in her song Deja Vu many young people started to listen to Uptown Girl making it now one of his top 5 most popular songs on Spotify, a streaming service widely used by young people. Joel’s song “We Didn’t Start The Fire” makes many political and dated references that older generations would understand but many young people wouldn’t, however the catchiness of the song makes it also very popular among the youth. Vinyl records making a comeback in the music industry are also making musicians like Billy Joel more widespread.

Ziggy Stardust aka David Bowie has so many amazing songs with his most popular Under Pressure, having 1.3 Billion streams on Spotify. Starman Bowie’s 2nd most popular song was trending on Tik Tok for a few months. Then his streams on Spotify and apple music began to skyrocket. The uniqueness of Bowie’s style of music makes it almost impossible to replicate and that’s why no modern artists are able to replace him and he still reigns as the Picasso of Pop.

Kurt Cobain has never been obsolete since his rise to fame. This was against his wishes however Kurt did not like the fame and was only playing for the music. Nirvana is a part of the 10 most popular bands in the world with people of all ages and backgrounds enjoying the music. Kurt also branched off and made his own music apart from the band. The unfortunate demise of Kurt occurred because he was overwhelmed with fame along with other factors. The legacy of his music lives on and doesn’t seem to be dying anytime soon.

All these popular artists along with many others have left a major impact in our world. Modern music is majorly influenced by these artists but can never replace them because such originality came from these decades.
