HHS has been on a streak of introducing new people and new things on campus. The beginning of the school year HHS introduced several new teachers and a new counselor as well. A couple of weeks ago students began to ballot for the upcoming 2023-2024 school year, and HHS introduced new electives that are being offered.

A couple of days ago, Loren Lighthall, The principal of HHS, announced two new teachers joining the pack in the upcoming school year. “As we continue to be a destination school for so many we are adding another teacher for the 23-24 school year. Mr. Garza will be joining us from Fox Road elementary as a social science teacher. DJ Sexton will also be joining us a social science teacher.”

Garza was born in Turlock, CA and raised in Waterford, CA. An HHS alumni, graduated in 1994. Obtained his college education from Merced Community College and Stanislaus State. In school, Garza enjoyed history and spanish.

As a result of becoming a teacher, Garza says, “It was a result of being one of the oldest in my extended family. I always enjoyed organizing games and activities with my younger cousins. I also enjoy observing the process of a young person learning.”

As for his future students, Garza adds on to say, “School is a place where you learn about things and yourself as a person. I hope to encourage students to appreciate the gaining of knowledge about the world around them. I also hope to help instill positive character traits in each student”. For words of advice, Garza wants students to know, “that choices put everybody on a path, and paths lead to a destination.  It is important to make choices that put us on paths that are positive and helpful for our future goals.”

A quote Garza lives by is, “Choices create habits. Habits create who we are and are perceived to be. If you want to change who you are, change your choices. We all have the ability to do that today.”
