On this week’s edition of Pondering Thoughts we’re to look at the history of the sport, Boxing.

On 6 January 1681, the first recorded boxing match took place in Britain when Christopher Monck, 2nd Duke of Albemarle and later Lieutenant Governor of Jamaica engineered a bout between his butler and his butcher with the latter winning the prize.

In professional boxing there are 5 different belts spanning 17 different weight classes. Those belts are The WBA (World Boxing Association), WBC (World Boxing Council), IBF (International Boxing Federation), WBO (World Boxing Organization) and The Ring.

There’s only been 2 boxers to win all belts, Floyd Mayweather and Oscar de La Hoya. Legends in the boxing world like Muhammed Ali, Sugar ray Robinson, Roberto Duran, and Rocky Marciano shaped the fighters of today like Saul Canelo Alvarez, Gervonta Davis,Tyson Fury, and Oleksandr Usyk.

Jack Dempsey was the first champion of the first association. Klitschko holds the record for the longest cumulative heavyweight title reign of all time, with 4,382 days as world heavyweight champion. Joe Louis has won the most world heavyweight title bouts, with 27. Louis holds the record for most consecutive title defenses at this division, with 26 defenses of the world title.
