Homecoming season came early this year for Hughson High School. Homecoming is an important tradition in Hughson and with it comes excitement and many fun activities throughout the week.
A big part of this special tradition is the selection of the school’s Homecoming court. Voting started the week of August 14th, allowing students from each grade to select four boys and four girls of their choice to have the chance to be nominated.
Friday’s homecoming game is also a huge part of Hughson’s tradition. This is also where the winners of this year’s homecoming court will be announced during halftime of the varsity football game.
One of the princess nominees is Olivia Boggan who is currently in 9th grade. Boggan said, “It means a lot to me, it’s a once in a lifetime opportunity so I am pretty excited about it”.
Another nominee is Hanalyn Martinez, who was nominated for senior homecoming queen. Regarding how special it feels being a senior nominee, Hanalyn stated, “Oh it 100% does, cause it’s my last year and I get to do all this big stuff, so it’s really like a good send off for my last year.”
Sophia Spears is a freshman who was also nominated for homecoming princess this year. Sophia shared, “It means a lot that people thought of me to be nominated as Hughson High Schools homecoming princess.”
This year’s homecoming nominees now belong to the fellow homecoming alumni and the tradition that has been around for decades.
