Harley Husky, Staff Writer

For this Husky in the Hot Seat, Staff Writer, Harley Husky, interviewed Hughson High Teacher, Nathan Govett.

Harley Husky: When have you been most satisfied in your life?

Mr. Govett: That’s a tough one.  I don’t know that I should ever feel completely satisfied, but recently I felt pretty satisfied with my new home in Hughson and my family.

Harley Husky: Who is your role model, and why?

Mr. Govett: I find that my role models change depending on what my current goals are.  Role models from my experiences as a high school student were definitely some of my teachers, particularly my varsity basketball coach, Ron Michael

Harley Husky: What things do you not like to do?

Mr. Govett: I’m not a huge fan of repairing things around the house.  I’ve got a washing machine I’ve had to repair about six times in the past year.  L

Harley Husky: What’s your superpower?

Mr. Govett: Figuratively speaking, perhaps the ability to bring consistent energy to kids, particularly in a sports setting.

Harley Husky: What are you reading currently?

Mr. Govett: I’m reading a book called “The Obstacle is the Way.”  It’s a book about seeing things differently, about using difficulty and failure to grow, with some principles from the Stoics.

Harley Husky: What’s the best Halloween costume you’ve ever had?

Mr. Govett: Probably a 70’s style “player” if you will… I had a big, red velvet hat with a feather in it, lots of bling, red pants, a cane; the works.  My wife was pregnant at the time, and was dressed as Brittney Spears, so it was quite the combo.

Harley Husky: What’s your favorite word?

Mr. Govett: I have a lot of words I like, but as anyone who has been in my class for vocabulary activities knows, I really like the word enthusiasm!

Harley Husky: What is your most-used emoji?

Mr. Govett: I’ll have to look up the name of it, but I think it’s called “shocked?”  It’s a little smiley face emoji.

Harley Husky: If you had to eat one thing for every meal going forward, what would you eat?

Mr. Govett: My favorite food of all time is a family recipe for a warm (also great cold as leftovers) German potato salad.

Harley Husky: Knowing what you know now, what advice would you give your 18-year-old self?

Mr. Govett: I would share some slogans that I try to follow now, and try to pass on to students and athletes.  One would be “Expect to do more than your share.”  Another is “Be jealous of your time.

Harley Husky: If you could instantly become an expert in something, what would it be?

Mr. Govett: That’s a tough one.  I do have some CSET exams to pass for physical education, and they are much more complicated than most people may expect, so I’ll go with that.

Harley Husky: If we’re sitting here a year from now celebrating what a great year it’s been for you, what did you achieve?

Mr. Govett: I achieved raising both the spirit and athletic competitiveness of our student body, and helped students enjoy, appreciate, and find success in their English class.
