Every year, Hughson High hosts the Freshman Conference; a day for just the Freshman, where they can hangout and play around with their friends and Seniors. A variety of games and small events are hosted just for the Freshman; team building exercises where they get to cheer each other on, and presentations designed to inform them. The Freshmen get out of class all day, and the people involved with helping set up and managing the event get excused from class for the day too.
A couple of the Freshmen had good things to say about their experience with the event: Kameron Vennema said he liked doing the Blind Maze-Walking that took place in the gym. He expressed it was exciting to “yell at his friends where to go, because I was their eyes.” The Blind Maze-Walking was just one of many team-building activities that took place. One person is blind-folded and has to walk through a maze, guided by the verbal instructions of their groupmates. Tyler Phun said that the part he enjoyed the most about the whole Freshman Conference is the fact that he gets to be excused from class for the whole day.
Some of the staff and people involved with the Freshman Conference, including Vivyanna Trevino, Janette Gonzalez, and Kaci Brazil enjoyed it as well. Mrs. Brazil shared that her favorite thing about the Conference is that it is exclusively a Hughson High experience; no other high school around here does it. Viviyanna and Janette both say that they like how interactive it is and that the Freshman get to communicate with each other and be active.
