During the school year, students are busy with academics, sports, extracurriculars, and even a job! At Hughson High, students are offered work experience as an elective, where they can have a job while in school, and the school supports it!
One HHS student that was interviewed was Rylee Perry. She works at Berryhill Family Vineyards, she started working there this year and works a few days out of the week as well as running the Berryhill social media. When asked why she decided to get a job while still in school, she said, ¨I need a source of income to get gas for my car and to have savings, also it gives me something to do.¨ Being a straight A student while balancing a job can be difficult, so I also asked how she stays organized with both work and school responsibilities, and she said, ¨I focus on good time management, but also I have little school work as a senior and lots of free time, so its pretty easy to space everything out.¨ Rylee Perry is just one of the many students at HHS that balances her schooling and her job evenly without falling behind.
Another HHS student that takes part of the work experience elective is Logan Dekleva. Dekleva works many jobs, but his main job is at Hughson Farm Supply, where he works 20-30 hours a week. When being asked if working affect his homework or studying, Dekleva replies with, ¨My working hours do not affect my studying because with me being a senior and having most of my classes and pathways completed, I have extra free time so working keeps me going.¨ Since Dekleva is a senior and has had some experience working this year and last year, I asked if he thought having a job had helped him learn responsibility, and he said, ¨Absolutely, I have learned so much from working, and it is helping me grow as a person to be prepared for when I graduate.¨ Both seniors only have 3 months left of school and are showing how responsible and prepared they are for the future!
