Welcome to week eleven of The Pre-Game, this week there will be three big games to talk about across Hughson High. Here we will give you the best look inside some of the key players minds for a great prediction during the upcoming week in Huskies sports.
November 15th Varsity Football Playoffs V.S El Dorado at Hughson High School 7:00 pm
After taking 3 weeks off, the Huskies have a huge playoff game ahead of them. It’s now officially the second round and El Dorado is no team to sleep on. After taking care of Lincoln in the first round they now sit at 6-5 heading into this one while the 1 seed Hughson Huskies will make their playoff debuts with an undefeated 10-0 record. With a Modesto Christian forfeit the Huskies have had some time off to recoup and take care of injuries to some key players. If Hughson knocks the rust off early this should be a pretty safe victory even with the weather playing a huge role in this one. The temperature will probably be in the mid 40’s by game time. Here is what Nic Wiggs, Hughson Huskies defensive lineman, had to say about how the weather and time off could possibly play a large role in the squads return to the football field, “I feel like the weather is gonna be a big factor because we haven’t played in these temperatures yet this season. Just because we haven’t played in a while doesn’t mean we won’t come out strong and treat it just like a normal game.” Hughson has one of the best playoff football atmospheres in the section and hopefully will have a lot to cheer about come game time.
November 20th Varsity Basketball V.S Central Valley at Central Valley High (Time TBA)
The Hughson Huskies Boys basketball team will get ready to start their season on Wednesday looking for major improvements with the new coaching staff. Last season was a disappointing one to say the least but with head coach Justin Riggs stepping down and lots of new transfer kids with tons of potential, this season could be a large step in the right direction. The TVL is no joke when it comes to basketball but maybe a culture change and better chemistry could possibly lead the team to a league title or at least a solid playoff run. Starting out the season with a home game against Central Valley is a great chance to set the tone and get the season started off with a win. Andrew Fisher said this when asked about his thoughts on this season and how the new coaching staff could possibly change things for the better, “It’s gonna be an adjustment for sure but if we build good chemistry and play as a team we will be good.” Despite the stereotypes and assumptions about Hughson High’s Boys Basketball, the new faces on the court will look to silence the haters just a few days from now.
November 22nd Varsity Soccer Hughson Tournament at Hughson High School
The annual soccer tournament is a great opportunity for young players to prove themselves at the varsity level. With the high amount of freshman talent and new coaching these games could be a great time to gain experience and develop before matches start to go into the max preparations. The main issue right now for the soccer team is the lack of starters with football still in playoffs, holes must be filled with less experienced players until the returners come back and with a decent history in these tournaments, Hughson can’t be a team to disappoint especially hosting the event. Hopefully the squad can gain chemistry in the limited amount of practices before the big day. Sophomore Ty Swain, who just got the call to varsity, will be making his first appearance on the soccer field coming out of cross country. When asked about his thoughts on the upcoming tournament these were his thoughts, “I think we will be fine in the tournament but we could do a lot better with the football players. Our team is pretty good so we will have good results.” Last season came to a heartbreaking end to the TVL race and playoffs as well, the boys look to avoid making the same mistakes and winning just the second league title in the schools history.
As another week in Husky sports arrives, our athletes believe they’re going to achieve big goals and dominate in their respective sports with intense practices and dedication. Through the wins and losses we will always show support. Here’s to hoping our teams bring their best and make us all proud as old seasons end and new ones begin.
