As high school students, we are always curious to see what our next step in life is. For some, that may be going straight into a career, and for others, that may be continuing their education through college. Samantha Gordo is a freshman at Fresno State, who will be sharing some advice and her experience so far.
Samantha is majoring in Pre-Health, where she hopes to pursue a career in nursing. A typical day, as explained by her, “ Waking up around 7 a.m., to prepare for my 8 a.m. class. After that, I head back to my dorm to finish any work for my online classes, as well as getting ready to go to my 1 p.m. class. After that class, I go back to my dorm and complete the rest of my work. Once I’ve finished that, I take my free time to relax with my friends and roommates, usually watching movies or exploring the city.” For Sami, her schedule can be very packed, but some advice she would give is, “Not to be stressed about classes and always try to take time to unwind and relax.”
Now, many people are probably curious about the living space and the food situation. Samantha explained that she lives in a dorm with five other girls, meaning there are a total of six girls sharing a living space and bathroom. For some, sharing a space, especially a bathroom, is difficult, but Sami doesn’t seem to mind it. “ Sharing a space with multiple people has actually been very fun and I got very lucky with who I roomed with, “ she described. Sami also has a certain meal plan, where she can get food from the dining hall as much as she needs, but when asked how the food was, she said, “ The food is really a hit and a miss. Some days it’s actually very good and other days it’s not.”
Sami explained the environment at Fresno State as “Very friendly and everyone seems very cool and nice. It’s a great place to meet some really good people, and the campus is very peaceful and beautiful.” When she was asked why she would recommend Fresno State, she replied, “It’s a great school that offers a lot of courses and majors. There are a bunch of events to get students involved and connect with others. You’re constantly meeting new people and gaining new and exciting experiences. The school gives you a lot of encouragement and opportunities to grow and work harder towards your goals.”
