Recently, more and more students are becoming entrepreneurs before they even graduate. What used to be an interest amongst college students has become a larger movement among teens who are eager to test their ideas and gain their financial independence. Student entrepreneurship is more than just a buzzword now; it’s changing high schoolers like the ones attending Hughson High in many ways.
This week, I had the opportunity to interview two student entrepreneurs, Samantha Valdivia and Ashlynn Crimson, on their ideas behind their businesses and marketing strategies.
When asked about the inspiration behind her nail business, Crimson answered, “I really enjoyed doing nails for my family and friends and getting more practice, so I decided to start offering it to other friends at school to practice more.
When asked the same question about her cookie business, Valdivia stated, “The inspiration was my friend, Aliyah. She always seemed so happy to bake and always sold her cake pops to people happily. I wanted to experience something like that, too.”
Valdivia also explained the habits that helped her to succeed in her entrepreneurship. “Daily habits that helped me succeed was planning and prioritizing. I planned for when I baked and sold my cookies so I don’t rush or find myself in a mess of things to do.”
On the same question, Crimson noted, “My daily habits when doing nails are making sure I have the correct time written down for when my client is supposed to come. I also organize my supplies every day to make sure they are easily available for me to use.”
Overall, the rise of student entrepreneurs is an exciting and intriguing development. High schoolers are more motivated to teach themselves skills like organization, socialization, and time management.
