Float building is an important tradition at Hughson High School during homecoming. This year the floats were only showcased during the annual homecoming parade for people to see.
This year’s homecoming theme was musicals. Freshmen were “The Greatest Showman”, Sophomores “Beetlejuice,” Juniors “Willy Wonka,” and Seniors “Teen Beach Movie.” Each grade showcased their artistic abilities and produced floats.
This year students were able to start working on floats after labor day up until Thursday night before the parade. Students start building after school until 8 p.m. every day during the homecoming week.
Students are challenged to work together and use responsibility and time management to make sure the floats get done in time.
“My favorite time of the school year is homecoming because of float building,” said Victoria Violette. “We really come together as a class and no matter how our float turns out we still have a good time.”
Every year the float building process can be a challenge for many reasons with several people working together, requiring teamwork and coordination.
Olivia Piazza said, “I think we need to be more organized with our supplies.”
This year the order of the winners, from first to last, are as follows:
Freshmen with the The Greatest Showman
Seniors with Teen Beach Movie
Sophomores with Beetlejuice
Juniors with Willy Wonka.
Congrats and great job to everyone who contributed!
