FFA student Makayla Silveira is going into her third year of FFA as a junior. Last season, she entered a lamb named Bluey for Hughson High School in the Stanislaus County Fair. Silveira has participated in 4-H or FFA for about eleven years. Along with being involved in agriculture, she also competes in golf and soccer.
I asked Makayla what fair week is like for her. “Fair week is the best! I look forward to it every year. I love showing, fitting animals, and spending time with friends. One of the funnest activities I like to participate in is the sheep fitting contest.” Later on, she explained how much she made off her lamb — a total of about one thousand dollars. “I love being in ag because I love livestock and being able to raise animals myself. The best part has been all the memories and friends I’ve made through 4-H and FFA.”
One of Makayla’s fellow FFA members, Sophia Spears, said, “I admire the way she never gives up. Even when her animals throw her curveballs, she always stays calm and finds a solution. She is one of the hardest-working and dedicated members. Her love and passion for ag are constantly shown through her actions.”
We are so excited to see what the rest of Makayla’s FFA and agriculture career brings in the next couple of years.
